A Valentine for You

Remember when you were in elementary school and received Valentine’s cards from every classmate? I deliberated over the card selection for each friend. I glued red, white, and pink heart shapes on a shoebox, cut a hole in the cover, and took it to the class party. My heart was full as I carried my decorated box stuffed with valentines. Yes, cheesy and goofy cards but I loved it. I thought I was loved in large quantities.

But that kind of love is shallow and easily discarded like the card itself. We long for a love that will heal the aches in our hearts. A love that satisfies our deepest longings. A love that washes away our shame and covers our fears and failures.

There is Someone who loves you like that.

God.

Deeply. Intimately. Immensely.

His Valentine to us is His Word. If we read the Bible as a whole, we better comprehend the big story of God’s never-ending love for His children. If we stop and linger, He will speak directly to us. He will remind us that we are the apple of His eye. We are His beloved.

Meditate on scriptures from the Bible that speak the truth of His love. Ponder His deep-abiding love for you. Receive these truths and let them penetrate deep into the very marrow of your bones.

You have been purchased for a price. 1 Corinthians 6:20

God loves you and sent His Son to die for you. 1 John 4:9-10

You are chosen and hand-picked by Him. 2 Thessalonians 2:13

You are dearly loved. Colossians 3:12

You are His treasured possession. Deuteronomy 26:18

You are holy and blameless; the King’s daughter; redeemed and restored. Ephesians 1:4-7

You are a good and perfect gift. James 1:17

You are His child. John 1:12

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14

You are precious and honored. Isaiah 43:4

Nothing can separate you from His love. Romans 8:38-39

Choose a scripture and plaster it in your house, in your car, in your bathroom, or on your phone. Give it occupancy in your heart and mind. Is your calendar still open on February 14? Set a date with the King of kings. Give him your hurts and dreams. He loves you more than you can think or imagine.
